Pasta Sauce 3-ways
This hearty Spaghetti Sauce is amazing. It has been a family favorite for years, and my husband tells everyone that once you try it you’ll never be able to go back to the stuff in a jar!
We use it for spaghetti, lasagna and ravioli. Recipes below:

Hearty Spaghetti Sauce
This sauce is packed full of flavor, rich and hearty. Once you taste this you’ll never want store bought sauce again!
1 can of tomato paste (12 oz)
3 cans crushed tomatoes (28 oz)
1 pound ground pork sausage
2 tsp. minced garlic
3-4 Tb. Italian seasoning
3 Bay leaves
1 cup onions chopped
½-1 tsp. red pepper flakes
Salt to taste
Brown sausage with onions. Drain fat and return to large pot. Add all remaining ingredients. Mix well and bring to low boil. Turn heat to low and simmer for 2-3 hours. This sauce is excellent for SO many things! We use it for spaghetti, ravioli, lasagna, we’ve even been known to use it to make a pizza because it’s so full of flavor!
Freezes very well! Place in gallon size bags and freeze. Thaw, re-heat on stove and serve.
Once you’ve got your sauce you are ready to use any of these ways or more!
Fresh made pasta is absolutely hands down the best way to enjoy this. If you have a favorite pasta recipe use that! If not, any dried pasta works just fine.
This filling came to me when I wanted to try my hand at ravioli and didn’t know what to fill it with. Using what I had in my refrigerator and pantry this is what I came up with, and it’s been a favorite ever since! Quick to mix up, and tastes amazing!
1 ½ cups cottage cheese
½ cup sour cream
8 ounces cream cheese softened
½ cup Italian seasoning
½ tsp. salt, more to taste
Mix cream cheese until smooth, add in cottage cheese and sour cream and blend well. Add seasoning and salt to taste. Use as filling for ravioli or lasagna, tastes delicious both ways!
For the Lasagna:
Layer sauce, pasta, sauce, cheese filling, pasta, sauce, cheese filling. I try to get as many layers as I can to fill up to the top of the pan. This filling recipe will give you about 5 layers. Top with mozzarella cheese and bake for 30 minutes @350 degrees.
For the Ravioli:
Roll out your favorite pasta and scoop tiny spoonfuls onto pasta sheet. Brush around the cheese filling with water, cover with rest of pasta and cut into desired ravioli shape. Boil in salted water 2-3 minutes. Serve with sauce and Parmesan cheese.
